COVID-19: Our Response

Important. Please read the whole thing.

This page will be updated as circumstances change.

Update (posted June 8th, 2020)

As we continue to slowly reopen and rebuild both our fitness as individuals and our gym community, I wanted to post an update with the latest schedule changes, health precautions, etc.. Whether you’re an existing CFC member who is ready to rejoin us, or a potential new member curious about how we’re doing business, here’s what you need to know:

  • The First Rule of CFC: If you feel anything less than 100%, please stay home.
  • The Second Rule of CFC: If you feel anything less than 100%, please stay home.
  • Class size limited to 10, with enrollment beforehand required. No exceptions.
  • 15-minute time gaps between classes to reduce occupancy at class changeovers.
  • Social distancing rules still apply (6 foot halo whenever possible, minimize contact, etc.).
  • Wipe down everything you use or touch *before and after*.
  • Floors, surfaces and bathrooms will be cleaned and disinfected on an ongoing basis.

In short, we’re taking every reasonable precaution to keep our members safe. We’ll always keep an eye on the recommendations of our public health experts, as well as state and local leadership. When you’re ready to join us in class, we’ll be ready to welcome you.

As always, please feel free to contact me directly with a text or email if you have questions.

Major Update (posted April 23rd, 2020)

Hi dear and very missed friends,

I hope everyone is safe, healthy, and has kept moving through this lockdown. Some of you I’ve seen in our online classes, but I’ve missed each and every one of you! And now, it seems our state leadership has decided that it’s time for us to start coming out of our homes. As the lockdown is lifted, all of us have to decide, both as individuals and as a community, how to do that responsibly.

After getting together with the coaches to discuss, we’ve all agreed that Monday, May 11th is the right time to restart on-site classes at CFC. We’ll start with a limited schedule, and regrow organically from there. Stay tuned for schedule details at a later date. In an effort to do everything we can to keep you and the coaches as safe as possible, we’ll keep all of the public health precautions we had in place before the shutdown, as well as some new ones. Here are the highlights:

  • The First Rule of CFC: If you feel anything less than 100%, please stay home.
  • The Second Rule of CFC: If you feel anything less than 100%, please stay home.
  • No more than 8 people per class, with enrollment beforehand required. No exceptions.
  • Time gaps between classes to reduce occupancy at class change-overs.
  • Social distancing rules apply (6 foot halo, minimize contact, etc.).
  • Wipe down everything you use or touch *before and after*.
  • Floors, surfaces and bathrooms will be cleaned and disinfected on an ongoing basis.

For those of you that understandably will take longer to feel good about rejoining classes, we will continue to provide Zoom classes in some capacity, we’ll keep posting daily At-Home workouts to SugarWOD, and we’ll continue equipment loan-out services as well. Stay tuned for details on an updated Zoom class schedule as we get closer to 5/11. If you’ve borrowed equipment, keep an eye out for a separate communication.

With *all* of that said, we’re going to stay nimble in this fast-changing environment. I have 100% confidence in the plan as it stands today, but if new information comes out and changes the underlying assumptions, the plan could change. Keep your eyes and ears open, and stay nimble with me.

As always, please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

See you soon (hopefully),

Major Update (posted March 25th, 2020)

Friends, we held on as long as we could, but it’s time. This thing keeps spreading, and I no longer feel 100% good about the risk to you, your families, our Coaches, and their families of coming to the gym. As of Friday 3/27, we have to cancel classes at the gym indefinitely. We’ll finish out Thursday’s scheduled classes, and starting Friday we’ll rely on the At-Home workouts I’ve been posting on SugarWOD (click for instructions on how to find those).

A big part of that is going to be the Equipment Loan-Out Program I mentioned yesterday on our Facebook group. I’m going to let you all take equipment home with you and use it to stay motivated and keep working out as we push through this. Click here for all the details on the Loan-Out Program and to get your name on the list.

I’m sorry, guys. I’m as bummed out as you are, but we have to be smart. Please don’t hesitate to contact me (info below) with questions, ideas, feedback, or any other reason. We’ll be back to the gym soon. In the meantime, you’re going to be hearing from me (and probably seeing me) constantly. We’re not stopping, we’re just changing shape for a while. Stay tuned…

Update (posted March 24th, 2020)

Hi friends,

First of all, I want to thank everyone in the CFC community, both immediate and extended, for hanging in there with us and being so supportive as we all fight through this crisis. Many of you have chosen to stay home, and I commend all of you for that. Those of you that have continued to come to classes have done an amazing job of adapting to the new rules and precautions. I’ve known for a very long time that we have something really special here at CFC, but this hardship has made that even more evident.

One major update to announce today:

  • In order to comply with the voluntary curfew (everyone home 9pm to 6am) requested by Dekalb County, our weekday 5:30am class is canceled until further notice. Our weekday 6:30am class will continue, under all the precautions and restrictions listed below.

As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback.

Major update, posted March 17th, 2020

Hey fam,

I wanted to reach out and update everyone in the CFC family on what we’re doing in response to current events. Things are changing by the day and by the hour, and we’re keeping an eye on the news (local and world).

  • Anything can change at any moment, so please stay tuned to all our communication channels for updates.
    • Our SugarWOD feed – Click here if you haven’t installed it yet
    • Our Facebook Page – Link
    • Our Facebook Group – Link
    • Our Instagram – Link
  • If local or state authorities declare a shutdown, or course we will comply.
  • Short of that, for now we will continue to run classes for as long as we can, with the following increased precautions and changes in addition to the ones we’ve already made:

BIG changes:

    • No drop-ins and no Intro classes until we’re clear of this mess. CFC members only for a while.
      • If you have a friend that’s thinking about joining us, please let them know we’ll be back online as soon as this thing is over.
    • Effective Thursday 3/19, all classes and Open Gyms will be capped at 8 participants, and you MUST enroll online. Enroll for a class through your CFC member account (click here, and bookmark it).
      • It’s super easy: On the Schedule page, click on the class you want and hit the Enroll button.
      • If the 8 class roster slots are full, your name will go on the waitlist.
      • If you have a roster slot reserved and you can’t/won’t make it, please cancel so someone on the waitlist can have your slot.
      • Most of our classes won’t hit the cap, but please get into this new habit. Part of staying open is sticking to the new guidelines, so it’s important.
      • I know this sucks, but if we’re going to stay open and keep training at any level, we have to limit people in the space.
      • One more time, here’s the link to the class schedule page where you can book your class slots:
    • Our Saturday 10am group class will have to change until further notice. In place of the big group at 10am, we’ll have smaller 1-hour Open Gym sessions at 8am, 9am, and 10am. A workout will be posted on the board, or come do your own thing.
      • These Open Gym sessions are subject to the new online enrollment and 8-person cap rules.
    • Effective immediately, At-Home workouts will be posted daily so folks that choose to stay home can still get their mobility, skill and metcon work.
      • You can find these new workouts in a separate SugarWOD workout track (click for instructions on how to switch tracks).
      • Get creative and have fun (safely, of course) with these workouts! Post videos to our FB group or your Insta of you squatting/snatching/cleaning/carrying the weirdest things you can think of. If you have access to equipment, mix it in.

Smaller-but-still-important details:

  • We’re gonna put away even more “common-touch” items (bands, foam rollers, etc.)
  • We’re gonna put away the chalk as well.
  • Guys: Keep your shirts on.
  • Everyone: Wash your hands immediately when you arrive, and wipe everything down when you put it away. No exceptions.

Looking ahead:

  • If we are forced to close, we will loan out our equipment. Details on that later, if we get there.

We (myself and all your CFC Coaches) are exploring every idea and doing everything we can to keep providing you with the value you expect from your membership. However, any member that wants to freeze their membership can do so; no guilt, no questions asked. I know folks everywhere are fighting through a hit to their income. Email or text me if you decide that’s your best course of action.

Again, please stay tuned as this could all change in a matter of hours. I promise we will all be ok, and when this crazy time fades, we’ll throw a HUGE party and come back better than ever.

If you have any questions, doubts, or concerns about anything we’re doing or not doing, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. My email address is and you can text me anytime at 865-310-0604.

First update, posted March 12th, 2020

Hi friends,

Weird, strange times. Here are my thoughts on how we as a family are going to push through this Coronavirus episode:

  • We’re going to keep training. No schedule changes to announce, and I don’t foresee any in the future. Of course that could change if things get even weirder, but as of now, we keep rolling.
  • Common sense is so clutch. Wipe down your equipment before and after you use it. Mop up your sweat puddles and chalk messes. Minimize unnecessary contact (I feel like we were ahead of our time with the fist bumping). If you cough or sneeze, cover your mouth well. All this stuff is #DUH, but super important now.
  • I’m gonna do everything I can to keep our space as clean as possible. You can help me by wiping down whatever you use, including the restrooms.
  • This is a big one: If you don’t feel well, even a little bit, stay home!! “Sweating it out” is not a thing. All you’re gonna do is get the rest of us sick, and yourself sicker. You need rest, not thrusters, and the rest of us don’t need what you have. Please be considerate.
  • Let me say that again for the folks in the back: If you don’t feel 100%, please don’t come to the gym. Rest. It’s better for literally everyone, including you.

We’re all gonna be ok, just gotta be a little more attentive to detail. See you at the gym. #elbowbumps
